17 Jun The 3 P’s of Success
What makes you different? What is so unique about you that drives your will to exceed?
I was never a big fan of these questions, because I never knew the answers. I would make-up answers that either sounded good and/or made sense. I remember my cosmetology teacher use to say, what is really going to make you successful? Still I never knew the answer.
I was just trying to figure out how I was going to pay rent, get gas and eat that month.
See I use to have this love/hate thing about success, because I would see others making it happen but quickly losing sight not knowing how I would get it. Hell, even trying to set a goal or two a month would be a big chore for me.
Here’s the truth, being a successful, sought after, in demand hairstylist takes some hard work. If you never visited that success category, you may find yourself, (like me) trying to figure out my passion and dreams in life.
It’s a journey! Like a loooooonnnnnnng journey. Let me emphasize that this overnight success thing doesn’t exist in our industry. It takes bravery, hard work and some stamina (super strength, mind, body and soul) to excel with greatness.
I want answers. Like REAL answers. How do you succeed, in this industry? I remember when I first started working at a salon and there was this ONE STYLIST who worked on clients, hitting high numbers and making great money! Then there were 3 other stylist who weren’t producing much at all. I meant they had maybe 3-4 clients a day and they spent most of their time in the backroom filing their numbers, talking about hair and gossiping about others.
I must admit that listening to other peoples stories, their philosophy and whatever else was the topic that day in the back room was fun. Yet, I would never see that Top Producer in the backroom, like EVER! He was too busy getting the job done and focus on his results.
I came to ONE conclusion. This conclusion was heart wrenching but was the ABSOLUTE fact.
This conclusion had me thinking that I really need to step my A-Game up on every level. You want to know? Ok here it goes:
WHEN WE DONT GET WHAT WE WANT, WE CREATE A FALSE INTERPRETATION OF SUCCESS. THAT FALSE INTERPRETATION BECOMES ARE TRUTH AND WE FEEL THAT IT S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE A HIGHER LEVEL OF SUCCESS.
So think about this for a moment. I know your probably thinking, that’s not me. Give me a chance to explain.
You see success requires patience, persistence and passion. One does not work with out the other. Case in point,
1.If you really want something but you don’t have the patience, it’s natural to make excuse why we give up.
2.If we are not persistent on our goals , we lose momentum and we lose our enthusiasm to excel.
3. If we lose our passion to build our dream lives, then it is easier to make up a reason why its’ just not working out.
Here’s the good news. It’s not about what makes your different. It’s about understanding why you need to be different.
Here’s my question to you: Do you have the Patience, Persistence and the Passion to succeed?
Like the stylists I worked with in the salon, they all made a choice daily, weekly and monthly. The biggest difference in character with the busy stylist vs the slower stylist was that the busy stylist passion drove his success to higher level. His persistence kept him focused and aligned to his goals. His patience turned his daily habits into a lifestyle.
